‘It’s easy being green’

(Rockwall ISD) Elementary campuses throughout RISD held a canned food drive to benefit Helping Hands as part of the district’s Students Serving Others Day.

Nebbie Williams Elementary students collected over 900 cans to benefit the organization.

At SSO Day, March 24, elementary campuses created canned food designs and competed against each other, with Nebbie taking first place.

Toyota of Rockwall generously donated $500 to the winning campus.

Nebbie’s idea of Kermit, the frog, was to support the initiative of recycling. Fourth grader Avery Samples came up with the idea to remind us, “That it’s easy being green.”

Celebrating with the trophy are Avery Samples, Alaina McWhirter, Rylee James, Joshua Harper, Danielle Sweeney, Margot Little ,McKenzie Graff, Ella Samples

Students worked throughout the week practicing how to make the design, mapped out the structure can-by-can and built Kermit in 15 minutes, using only collected cans and a piece of plywood to serve as his neckline. The canned food design was built with over 450 cans.
