(Rockwall) May 22, 2012 – The smell of sweet success in the form of fresh baked bread is coming to Rockwall. The Rockwall Economic Development Corporation has attracted another great business with Bimbo Bakeries USA. The largest bakery in the United States, will build a brand new, $75M state-of-the-art baking facility in the Rockwall Technology Park.

“This is the largest build to suit project in the history of our city, and we are proud to welcome Bimbo Bakeries to Rockwall. Bimbo joins a well-established family of corporate headquarters and manufacturers in our growing Technology Park.” said Sheri Franza, President and CEO of the Rockwall Economic Development Corporation.

The Rockwall Economic Development Corporation has been preparing for a project of this size for many years now. It has been the corporation’s vision to bring Fortune 500 companies to Rockwall to relocate, expand or grow their business in this burgeoning section of northeast Texas.

Location is key in site selection for deals like Bimbo Bakeries.

“Our proximity to the Dallas/Ft. Worth airport and the greater Metroplex makes us attractive to businesses looking for a location in the greater North Texas area and puts us in the running with some of the larger cities to the west,” said Franza.

Rockwall is a short 23 miles from Dallas and 43 miles from D/FW Airport.

“We’re actually closer to Dallas than many of the cities that compete for the same projects as we do, and we have a quality of business life in Rockwall that is unsurpassed. Once major corporations and manufacturers realize how close we are to the hub of DFW, and they experience life as we know it in Rockwall, smart businesses such as Bimbo Bakeries see it as a recipe for success.”

The George Bush Turnpike Eastern extension has provided yet another gateway of access to Rockwall from the north. With its opening last year, getting from Rockwall to Richardson, Plano and far North Dallas takes less than half the time.

“The opening of the eastern extension has been fantastic for us. We expect to see exponential growth in Rockwall as a result, both from new homeowners as well as job seekers,” said Franza.

Rockwall citizens just approved a proposition to make significant improvements to roads and the Rockwall downtown square.

Downtown Square improvements include street and sidewalk reconstruction, new parking Sheri Franza lots and additional street parking, a new pedestrian mall, street landscaping, lighting, signage and other enhancements.

“Quality of personal and business life is huge to companies looking to expand or relocate and the new downtown will be another amazing selling point when we showcase this great city of ours,” said Franza.
