Back 2 School Health Fair Aug. 11 benefiting Lewisville ISD students

School supply drive runs now through July 26

(Lewisville) July 16, 2012 – The second annual Back 2 School Health Fair benefiting students of the Lewisville ISD community will be 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Saturday, Aug. 11 at Harmon High School, 1250 W. Round Grove Road.

Back 2 School Health Fair is a coalition of churches, schools, social services and civic agencies collaborating with area businesses to give those less fortunate an opportunity to start the school year off right.

Advance registration is required. Parents can register children and receive supply vouchers at Wal-Mart at 801 Main Street on Friday, July 13, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

This is a family-friendly event providing an opportunity to increase awareness and availability of education, health and social services for parents and children through interactive, informative activities, displays and entertainment. The event will help students in the Lewisville Independent School District community with many of their school-related needs, including distributing free backpacks and school supplies to about 3,000 children.

As a one-stop destination, the fair will help prepare economically disadvantaged children go back to school through services provided by the community agencies that specialize in helping children.

Free hair cuts for school-aged children

Planned activities include:

Fun children’s activities such as face-painting, bounce house, games and a reading corner

Free backpacks and school supplies for grades pre-k thru 12 (Children must be present)

Free health screenings and health insurance information

Free dental information, toothbrushes and toothpaste for students

Free vision and hearing screenings for school-aged children

Free haircuts for school-aged children

Free sports physicals

Free immunizations for uninsured or under-insured children; parent or guardian must be present and have child’s current shot records.

College/University/Trade School information

Financial aid information

LISD will provide information on district services

Community resource booths featuring information on such subjects as crime prevention, fire safety, underage drinking, parenting, health and nutrition

Heavenly Supply Depot kicked off the “Cane’s Stuff the Bus Campaign” on July 9. School supplies collections will be held at the following Lewisville locations until Thursday, July 26: Raising Canes on Main Street, Raising Canes on Hebron Parkway, Chick-Fil-A on Main Street, Korner Kafe, Wal-Mart stores at Main Street, FM 3040 and FM 407, Kwik Kar on Vista Ridge, Xerox Corporation, Smile Magic Dental & Braces, JP Morgan Chase (three locations in Lewisville), Colonial Savings Bank, Community Chiropractor (Uniform pants, skirts & shorts only).
