Helping Hands Health Center welcomes new medical staff members

(Rockwall) August 15, 2013 – The Health Center of Helping Hands is pleased to welcome two new mid-level healthcare providers that have joined Nikki Johnston, FNP.  Nikki, a graduate of  Graceland University in Independence, Missouri with a MSN, specializing in Family Nurse Practitioner, has been with the Health Center since September, 2011.

Joann Coons is a Physician Assistant with extensive experience.  Coons received her Bachelor’s Degree from St. Louis University, School of Allied Health Profession, and Physician Assistant program.  Before that she worked as a registered nurse and emergency medical technician in Missouri.  For eleven years, Joann was employed by Lincoln County Memorial Hospital as a rural staff physician assistant and rotated through two Family Practice clinics in Troy, Missouri.

Annie Abraham, an adjunct clinical instructor at Texas Woman’s University, Dallas, teaches courses in Advanced Assessment/Differential Diagnosis, Family Health Nursing, Nurse Preceptorship and Professional Project.  Annie received her MSN from the University of Texas at Arlington as a Family Nurse Practitioner.  She will be working one day a week at the Health Center.

The Center serves more than 4,700 uninsured, underinsured, cash pay, Medicaid and Medicare patients in 2012.  Healthcare providers help patients manage chronic diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, asthma and other cardio obstructive pulmonary diseases (COPDs) and work with both area hospitals to lessen the number of persons accessing emergency departments instead of primary healthcare providers.
