Channell Commercial Corporation relocates to Rockwall business community

ROCKWALL (February 28, 2014) The Rockwall Economic Development Corporation is pleased to announce the relocation of Channell Commercial Corporation’s corporate headquarters and manufacturing facility to the City of Rockwall. The 175,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility will be located at the northwest corner of John King Boulevard and Justin Road Extended and will house the largest structural foam machine in the State of Texas.

“Rockwall is becoming well known for attracting and expanding national and sustainable companies in the advanced manufacturing and technology sectors,” said Sheri Franza, REDC president & CEO. “Channell Commercial Corporation is a first class, global telecommunication technology supplier, and we are privileged to have them join our business community.”

Franza also stated, “Channell’s decision to relocate their nearly 100 year-old family business to Rockwall is a testament to the quality of our corporate business environment and solid political climate. I believe Rockwall is the perfect location and provides all the elements to foster and support Channell’s international growth strategy. Channell’s new headquarters and manufacturing facility in Rockwall will be a huge attraction for other advanced manufacturing operations seeking a strong city and state to support their organization.”

Channell Commercial Corporation was established in 1922 and has been the leader of thermoplastic enclosures in the Telecommunication and Broadband industries for nearly a century. Channell is a fourth-generation family operated business, global corporation, and proud USA manufacturer. Currently headquartered in Temecula, California, Channell has other facilities in Canada, United Kingdom, Australia and Malaysia.

“After a two-year search, I am pleased we selected Rockwall,” said Bill Channell, CEO for Channell Commercial Corporation. “I personally want to thank Sheri Franza, Ray Pawley, and especially Congressman Ralph Hall for the many hours of conversation and assistance toward getting this transaction completed. We are eager at Channell to begin developing this new facility and we’re very appreciative of the men and women within Rockwall City Management that have already begun paving the way for us to break ground in 2014. Furthermore, our customers located east of the Rockies, in Canada, and throughout Latin America will greatly benefit logistically from our decision to build in Rockwall. From a quality of life perspective, we believe Rockwall will allow us an advantage in recruiting top talent nationally. The REDC’s association with Texas A&M University offers additional opportunities to find new engineering talent to join Channell. Overall, we are very optimistic regarding this business venture and look forward to many successful years of manufacturing in the Rockwall community.”

“REDC is able to attract companies looking for the best opportunity to expand or relocate because of our leadership in business recruitment, economic climate, strong schools and housing market, and a talented workforce,” said Congressman Ralph Hall. “Channell Commercial Corporation’s decision to locate in Rockwall builds on the company’s significant commitment to being a world-wide leader in their industry while creating good jobs locally. I have no doubt that Channell will be a great corporate neighbor for the City of Rockwall and the State of Texas.”

As the number one provider of thermoplastic enclosures and advanced copper and fiber connectivity products, Channell’s leading American companies include Verizon, AT&T, Comcast, Time Warner, Cox, and Charter. International companies include SingTel, Malaysia Telecom, France Telecom, BT, Bell Canada, Telmex, Optus Communications, and Telstra, to name a few customers. The $20 million development will begin in the fourth quarter of 2014 and will initially create more than 200 jobs, greatly benefitting Rockwall and its residents now and in the future.

“As a 20-year resident of Rockwall and board consultant to Channell Commercial, it was evident to me that Rockwall should be a serious consideration for Channell’s new facility,” said Ray Pawley, who was instrumental in narrowing Channell’s global wide search for relocation to the City of Rockwall. “To implement an aggressive start-up program with the right resources and people, I contacted Ralph Hall, our Congressman, for his support and guidance. He immediately recognized the benefits of having a world-class telecommunication technology supplier located in Rockwall. Congressman Hall’s energy, contacts and leadership were essential in moving this project to closure.”

“Today’s announcement is a positive indicator of the growth and health of our advanced manufacturing sector,” said Franza. “We’re proud that Channell Commercial Corporation has chosen to locate in Rockwall. Their decision shows REDC’s strong commitment to retain, relocate and grow business in Rockwall.”
