Celebrating Southern-style

Known as a country and southern rock artist, Charlie Daniels is also a multi-instrumentalist. He was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry in 2008 and the Musicians Hall of Fame and Museum in 2009. From his Dove Award winning gospel albums to his Southern rock anthems and CMA Award-winning country hits, few artists have left a more indelible mark onAmerica’s musical landscape than Charlie Daniels. An outspoken patriot, mentor to young artists and still a road warrior at age 76, Charlie has parlayed his passion for music into a multi-platinum career and a platform to support the military, underprivileged children and others in need.

“I love what I do,” said Charlie of his 50-plus years in the music business. “I look forward to entertaining people. When show time gets here, I’m ready to go, ready to go play for them. It’s a labor of love. I just thank God I make a living at what I enjoy doing.”

Discover Rockwall’s history

Rockwall takes its name from the underground formation discovered by three settlers in the early 1850s. Terry Utley Wade, Benjamin Boydstun and William Clay Stevenson were digging a well near what is now the Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market, when they unearthed the mysterious rock wall. Even after being featured in a segment of the History Channel’s “America Unearthed,” many still question its true origin.

Rockwall was officially platted as a community by Elijah Elgin on April 17, 1854, when he purchased a 40-acre tract from W.B. Bowles. The area that became Rockwall was a small part of the 572-acre homestead of Benjamin Boydstun.
