ROCKWALL COUNTY, TX (August 28, 2014) Margo Nielsen drove to Helping Hands Thursday morning knowing an Open House would be held in her honor, but what the retiring Executive Director didn’t know is that her day would also be filled with big surprises.

When she entered the parking lot of the agency, she was greeted by a parade of people holding signs, balloons and banners, recognizing her 25 years with the organization. The parade formed around 9 a.m., before the official Open House that spanned from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Visitors came throughout the day with well wishes, and to bring items for the food pantry and to drop off donations.

Margo received another big surprise later in the afternoon, when Rockwall Soroptimist presented her with a $5,000 check, to be used for mammograms and other women’s and children’s health needs through the Helping Hands Health Clinic. Rockwall Soroptimist raised that money at its WomenAid Country Fair in June. Members are already planning the second annual Country Fair coming next spring. Club members included Paula Barlow, Lesa Walker, Judy Canterbury, President Erin Atkins, Gail Ferguson, Cindy Lindley, Sue Reeves, Karen Coughlin and Rockwall County Clerk Shelli Miller.
