Rockwall allowing watering once per week

Effective immediately.

ROCKWALL, TX (September 1, 2014) The City of Rockwall and other cities in the North Texas region have found it necessary to flush the water system periodically this summer to maintain chlorine residual levels. Chlorine residual is impacted both by the weather and levels of consumption. Many cities in theNorth Texasregion are facing the same circumstances.

For this reason, the City of Rockwall and area cities have changes from the regionally adopted once every two weeks to a once a week watering schedule. This will allow residents to take advantage of the convenience of their automatic watering systems.

The City ofRockwallhas consistently met or risen above its goal set by its water provider, the North Texas Water District. Rockwall Residents have decreases water consumption by 49% in July.

While the City will work with the NTMWD member and customer cities to develop a more regional approach to this situation, Rockwall believes this will maintain its chlorine residual requirements and allow relief to residents’ landscaping as we all transition into the fall season when grass and plantings become dormant. The change in schedule will give customers an opportunity to use water that would otherwise be lost during the flushing of the water system pipes and storage tanks.
