Texas Health Presbyterian Rockwall earns top safety grade

ROCKWALL, TX (Nov. 12, 2014) Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Rockwall earned an A grade for patient safety, according to the latest Hospital Safety Scores from The Leapfrog Group. The organization used publicly available quality and safety measures, as well as leadership commitment to creating a safe environment for patients, to come up with the letter grades.

Nationally, only about one-third of the 2,520 hospitals scored were awarded an A.  Texas Health Rockwall has received an A each grading period for 3 years in a row.  Kerry Baucom, Director of Quality, at Texas Health Rockwall commented, “This is quite an accomplishment and should be celebrated as a reminder of our ongoing commitment to quality and patient safety. I could not be prouder of this facility, our physicians and each employee in every capacity who are crucial to our hospital success and mission.”

Texas Health Resources, managing partner in the Rockwall joint-venture hospital, had 10 hospitals throughout the Metroplex to receive an A this grading period.  “This score represents our commitment to making patient safety and quality improvement top priorities,” said Linda Gerbig, senior vice president of performance and quality outcomes for Texas Health. “We’re pleased to be recognized on a national level for our efforts.”

The Leapfrog Group bases the Hospital Safety Score on national performance measures from the Leapfrog Hospital Survey, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to produce a single score representing a hospital’s overall performance in keeping patients safe from preventable harm and medical errors.

Individual hospital scores can be viewed at the Hospital Safety Score website at www.hospitalsafetyscore.org.
