Rockwall Urgent Care sponsors campaign to support Meals on Wheels

ROCKWALL, TX (Feb. 8, 2015) Little known facts: Meals on Wheels Senior Services of Rockwall County has more than 125 volunteers. These volunteers deliver more than 45,000 meals per year to the elderly and disabled in the Lake Ray Hubbard community. As hard as it is to believe, this wonderful non-profit organization has only three employees.

The Director of Meals on Wheels of Rockwall County, Margie VerHagen, clearly enjoys what she does and loves working with area residents and volunteers. Still, the demand remains great. VerHagen stated, “More people moving into Rockwall County translates into more seniors and more people with disabilities who need meals. Plus, the first of the year is typically a slow time for donations because so many people give generously around the holidays.”

Leslie Wilson, Marketing Director of Rockwall Urgent Care, said, “I’ve known Margie VerHagen for many years. She and her staff work tirelessly to meet the needs of a growing population of area seniors and people with disabilities. We’re excited to spearhead this effort to raise awareness for Meals on Wheels and support them financially at a time when they really need the help.”

So, what’s a Facebook “Like” Campaign anyway? For every new “like” they receive on Facebook during the month of February (2015), Rockwall Urgent Care will donate $1 (up to $250) to Meals on Wheels of Rockwall County.

Many folks may not realize it, but the Texas Department of Agriculture developed the Texans Feeding Texans initiative in February of 2009 to help more and more residents be able to stay in their homes, rather than move to a nursing facility. Besides the obvious benefit of greater independence for seniors, this initiative also saves taxpayers thousands of dollars each year in support of those who can’t meet their own needs.

Rockwall Urgent Care is open 7 days a week, as follows:

• Monday-Friday 9 a.m.-9 p.m.
• Saturday 9 a.m.-6 p.m.
• Sunday 12-6 p.m.
