World’s longest-running play opens at Rockwall Community Playhouse

ROCKWALL, TX (March 19, 2015) Commissioned by the British Broadcasting Company (BBC) to celebrate the 80th birthday of Queen Mary who was a fan of mystery writer Agatha Christie, The Mousetrap was was originally entitled Three Blind Mice. It was written as a short radio play based on a true story and was broadcast on May 30, 1947.The adapted drama had its world premiere at the Theatre Royal, Nottingham on October 6, 1952. Since its premiere, it has never stopped running and has now exceeded 25, 000 performances.

Rockwall Community Playhouse director Christy Brown is excited to bring The Mousetrap to life.

“My husband and I saw it this past summer at St. Martin’s Theatre inLondon, and by the end of the show I knew I wanted to direct it,” she said.

The play opens as newlyweds Mollie (Whitney Rosenbalm) and Giles Ralston (Preston Wells) are so busy making preparations for guests to arrive at their lodge that they miss hearing the radio broadcast (voice of Gary Freedman) announcing that a murder has taken place nearby. The guests include: Christopher Wren (Michael Logue), Mrs. Boyle (Gayle Brewer), Major Metcalf (Lloyd Turney), Miss Casewell (Jennifer White), and Mr. Paravicini (Steve Golin). Detective Sergeant Trotter (Brandon Whitlock) arrives, and as he is interrogating the guests, one of the guests is mysteriously killed. The path to the story’s resolution is full of twists and will keeaudience on the edge of their seats.

Actress Whitney Rosenbalm recommends the play highly, saying, “When I saw it recently, I suspected every character at one point. I think that makes for a fun experience for the audience. It’s not just your typical “whodunit”—it’s Agatha Christie, the queen of murder mysteries!”

Mousetrap performances are: March 27-29, April 3-5, 10-12 with Friday and Saturday night shows at 8 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 2pm. There will be a special surprise for the Easter weekend show!
