Junior Sam Bowerman leads Heath Hawks to 2nd place finish in District 12-5A Golf Tournament

(ROCKWALL/HEATH, TX – April 6,2015) Last Thursday at Waterview Golf Club in Rowlett, junior Sam Bowerman became the first boy golfer from Heath High School to win a district championship.

Sam shot (74) on the second day to become the District 12-5A Individual Champion. He a had a two day total of (155) and beat Caden Coplin of Forney High School by three strokes. Landon Davis of North Forney was third place medalist with a two day total of (164).

Sam helped lead the Hawks to a second place finish in District 12-5A, and the Hawks gained a trip to the Region II 5-A tournament on April 13 and 14 at Rockwall Golf and Athletic Club. Sam and senior Jacob Hogue both earned First Team All-District honors; Jacob had a two day total of (175). Junior Preston Rutherford was Second Team All-District with a two day total of (182). Also playing well for the Hawks were Senior Garrett Baldwin and Freshman Jack Gordon with low scores of (88) and (94) respectively.

Sophormores Cole Smith and Ben Adams placed 31st and 38th as medalists in a field of 52 players.

This is the third Regional appearance for the Heath Hawks in Boys Golf. The team played in the Region II 4-A Tournament in 2007 at Robson Ranch Golf Club in Denton; the Region II 5-A Tournament at Twin Rivers Golf Club in Waco in 2012 and now the Region II 5-A in Rockwall. The Hawks are working toward a strong showing at the Regional Tournament and Sam Bowerman will be shooting for a trip to the State Tournament in Austin. The top three teams and the top three medalists not attached to a team will advance to the State Tournament.
