First responders to the rescue for Patriot PAWS

(ROCKWALL, TX – May 14, 2015) When PetSmart contacted Patriot PAWS Service Dogs, a non-profit organization that trains and places service dogs with disabled American veterans, to donate a large quantity of dog food, the first question was, how do we get the food from the Distribution Center in Ennis to the Patriot PAWS Training Center in Rockwall?

The answer was to rent a 20’ truck to transport the food. Once the food arrived in Rockwall, the next question was, how do we get nine pallets of food off the truck and into the facility? One well-placed phone call from Jill Gamble, Volunteer and Event Coordinator for Patriot PAWS to the Rockwall Fire Department evoked a promise that they would send help over the next morning.

What no one expected was to have Police and Fire from Rockwall, Heath and Fate to show up with a Band of Brothers and a skid loader to help Patriot PAWS. With everyone jumping in to help, the 13 Police and Firemen and 13 Patriot PAWS staff and volunteers were able to unload and put up 390 bags of dog food in an hour.

“This would have taken the Patriot PAWS staff hours, if not days to unload and put up without the help of these awesome first responders,” said Terri Stringer, Assistant Executive Director of Patriot PAWS. “We are so blessed to be located in such an amazing area where three communities banded together to help out. Thank you all.”
