(ROCKWALL,TX– Jan. 16, 2016) Several Rockwall County officials and residents decked the studs and cement flooring of the future home of U.S. Army Sergeant First Class Jerry Holcomb and his family with heartwarming messages of gratitude, during a ‘Notes of Love’ home signing event on Friday, Jan. 15.

Sgt. Holcomb – who suffers from a traumatic brain injury, post-traumatic stress disorder, and neck, shoulder and back pain after three deployments in Korea, Iraq and Afghanistan – is receiving a custom-built, mortgage-free home courtesy of Operation Finally Home, Mishler Builders and sponsors, including the Dallas Builders Association, TXU Energy and FC Dallas. The home is located at2555 Wincrest Drivein High Point Lake Estates in Rockwall.

Folks were invited to grab a Sharpie, pencil and paper, or a spray paint can and write messages of encouragement to the Holcomb family. They wrote on the wood studs, walls and flooring, with the idea that these encouraging notes will forever remain a part of the house even once they’re covered up upon its completion.

The Holcomb family then arrived later in the afternoon to view all the kind words written by the community in their honor.

The Dallas Builders Association, a non-profit trade organization chartered by the State of Texas, has partnered with Operation Finally Home on a number of occasions to provide homes for combat wounded veterans and widows of fallen soldiers. The Holcomb custom-built home is the organization’s third project overall.

Established in 2005, Operation Finally Home – a nonpartisan / nonprofit 501(c)3 organization now in its 10th year of providing custom-built, mortgage-free homes to America’s wounded veterans and the widows of the fallen – partners with corporate sponsors, builder associations, builders, developers, individual contributors and volunteers to help America’s military heroes and their families transition to the home front by addressing one of their most pressing needs: a home to call their own.
