City of Rockwall hosts successful meeting with area neighborhood associations

The biannual gathering is an effort to increase communication and awareness among residents

(ROCKWALL, TX – Feb. 5, 2016) Turnout was big for a recent meeting between the City of Rockwall and area Homeowner’s Association presidents. Attendees included both City leaders and residents representing 13 of the City’s HOAs. The informational gathering was considered productive, with discussions ranging from the Parks and Recreation Department’s new healthy living awareness campaign, to water quality, and upcoming planning and zoning projects designed to support citizen awareness.

Assistant City Manager, Mary Smith, made a presentation to the group about various water issues, and afterward, residents asked informed questions about topics including water quality and conservation efforts. Ryan Miller, the Director of Community Development, Planning and Zoning, spoke about the City website’s interactive mapping project that keeps people informed about the latest planning and zoning projects. And Parks and Recreation Manager, Andy Hesser, presented the City’s new campaign to Go Outside and Play! This healthy living initiative is an effort to raise awareness about Rockwall’s abundance of park amenities, which are all in close proximity to a majority of residents.

The City Manager, Rick Crowley moderated the event. Rockwall Mayor Jim Pruitt, Mayor Pro-Tem, Dennis Lewis, and Council Member David White, as well as Assistant City Manager, Brad Griggs, were also in attendance. These meetings were formed last year as part of an initiative on behalf of the City of Rockwall to increase transparency and communication with residents. This community outreach program has been successful in promoting a two-way dialogue between HOAs and the City. The next meeting is planned for July, and HOAs are encouraged to register with the City at www.rockwall.com/planning.
