Leadership Rockwall Class of 2016 reveals Backyard Refuge for Rockwall Child Advocacy Center

(ROCKWALL, TX – May 16, 2016) The Leadership Rockwall Class of 2016 unveiled its completed Backyard Refuge project for the Rockwall Child Advocacy Center (CAC) on Sunday, May 15, during a come and go dedication event at the CAC (1350 E Washington St). The community was invited to come marvel at the new pergola, playground and customized brickyard installed behind the facility while enjoying hot dogs, accompaniments and s’mores.

The class raised nearly $70,000 in cash and in-kind contributions for the refuge, which will serve both adult and child victims of physical and sexual abuse as a place to relax, play, talk and start to heal. Modern Woodmen Fraternal Financial also agreed to match the first $3,000 of donated funds to go towards the project.

Leadership Rockwall develops the potential of emerging leaders throughout the county by introducing them to the realities, opportunities and challenges of local civic and business communities. The class must complete a community service project benefitting a non-profit, city, town or district of Rockwall County within nine months.
