Royse City High School Paw Patrol visits Anita Scott Elementary

Royse City High School Paw Patrol visits Anita Scott Elementary

(ROYSE CITY, TX — Oct. 6, 2016) On Tuesday, Oct. 4, the newly established Royse City High School “Paw Patrol” made its first-ever campus visit to Anita Scott Elementary School to honor custodian Corey Sullivan.

Paw Patrol ambassadors Victoria Aguilera, Tyler Crumrine, Mary Edwards, Kaitlyn Jeffery, Michaela Maxey, Darrah Merillat, Justin Nichol, and Destiny Sakelovidis  sported their logo baseball tees and joined forces with Student Council Sponsor Leah Voth, Scott Secretary Martha Edwards, and Assistant Principal Brittany Lancaster to make the special moment happen.

When the Paw Patrol arrived, the gym was filled with kindergarten, first grade, and second grade students and staff members who eagerly awaited the opportunity to pay honor to their beloved Mr. Sullivan.  As Mr. Sullivan entered, the entire group chanted “Paw Patrol! Paw Patrol!” and cheered and clapped.  Surprise registered on Sullivan’s face as he was led to the front of the gymnasium.

The nomination, submitted by Principal Don Jacobs, reads as follows:

“We would like to nominate our custodian Corey Sullivan for recognition by the Paw Patrol. Corey is a wonderful custodian, taking care of things that most people would not ever want to do without complaint. Most importantly, though, Corey loves our students. He dresses up for them on holidays and special events.  He make suggestions on how to make the school safer for the younger students. Corey even asks to come to Meet the Teacher events so that the new students can see him and feel more comfortable when they see a familiar face.  Corey goes above and beyond his job description.  He is one of the reasons our students love Scott Elementary and we all love him.”

Mary Edwards read the framed nomination aloud, and the Paw Patrol also presented Sullivan with a “Paw Patrol” t-shirt and a bucket of RC Bulldog-themed goodies.

“Because the visit was a surprise, we had not told anyone about it until twenty minutes before the Paw Patrol arrived. Our hope had been to have a couple of classes present when Corey was honored, but every one of our teachers made time to bring their class to share in Corey’s surprise. It was amazing to hear 500 kids cheering for Mr. Corey. Thank you for helping us show him how much he means to us,” Scott Secretary Martha Edwards said.

“Being a part of this was such a sweet experience!  It was so neat to see Mr. Corey’s and the students’ excitement! This is definitely something that I will remember for a lifetime!” Senior StuCo Recorder Kaitlyn Jeffery said.

“It was great going back to my elementary school and seeing everything again.  Having all the kids help cheer with us was fantastic and being able to recognize such a great person was an awesome experience!” Senior StuCo Vice-President Justin Nichol said.

“Honoring Mr. Corey for all the work he does was truly amazing.  The atmosphere was great, and you could clearly see the impact he makes in every student’s life through all of the smiles, laughs, and chants that lasted throughout and after our visit,” Senior StuCo President Darrah Merillat said.

“It was really sweet to see someone who I’ve seen willingly work so hard get recognized publicly,” Junior StuCo Teacher Appreciation Chair Mary Edwards said.

The Paw Patrol will continue to welcome nominations from campus principals and will continue to celebrate more staff members from around Royse City ISD throughout the school year.
