Local couple starts foster closet in Rockwall

(ROCKWALL, TX – March 28, 2017) Earlier this year, Kevin and Cheyenne Weable opened the doors to a new nonprofit providing necessities for foster children in Rockwall County and the surrounding area.

Room 29:11 is a foster closet which provides new and gently used clothing for children of all sizes, gently used or new shoes, cribs, car seats, toys, and pretty much anything that could be needed for a foster care child. The items are provided at no cost; All that’s required is for one to show their foster paperwork.

“So many people don’t realize the support that foster parents and foster children need,” Cheyenne said. “Not only are we providing material items, we’re also providing support for these families so that they know people in their community care, and that we’re trying to help in any way possible.”

According to Cheyenne, the name of the foster closet comes from the bible verse Jeremiah 29:11 which reads, “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’” Cheyenne said she and Kevin got the idea of starting a foster closet after she met with a friend in December who was about to add three foster kids to her family of five.

“They were about to go from a family of five to a family of eight, and she said she needed to get two new toddler beds and car seats, and on top of that she had three more children for Christmas,” she said. “That’s when it hit – this is how I can help. I can provide items and donations for children who are fostered.”

Cheyenne said with the closest foster ministry being in Garland, they realized how much of a need that Room 29:11 could fulfill for Rockwall County and the surrounding areas.

“We just jumped in and went for it. We really didn’t know what we were doing but we thought this was definitely a need and could be something really good for the Rockwall community,” Cheyenne said.

Room 29:11 operates out of Advantage Storage in Rockwall located at 660 Justin Road. Cheyenne said they started taking donations for the closet last December and officially opened it to the public in the second week in January. Since opening its doors, Cheyenne said Room 29:11 has been well received by the Rockwall community. “Families have told us over and over again how much they appreciate it because they feel like people in the community are loving on these foster care kids, but also that there’s not to many places around here that offer those services. The donations have been very generous and the foster parents who have come in have been very thankful and encouraging and appreciative.”

Another one of the Weable’s goals is to get a Bible into the hands of every foster child they serve. “We want these children to know that no matter what they go through in life that Jesus is always going to be there for them,” Cheyenne said.
