Rockwall ISD Board sets public hearing to consider District of Innovation designation

(ROCKWALL, TX — March 8, 2017) At their February meeting, the Rockwall ISD Board of Trustees adopted a resolution to initiate the District of Innovation consideration process. In compliance with Texas Education Agency eligibility guidelines, the board will host a public hearing within 30 days to consider whether the district should pursue the District of Innovation designation. The public hearing will be held during the regularly scheduled Board of Trustees monthly meeting on March 20 at 6 p.m. at the Rockwall ISD administration building, 1050 Williams Street.  Within 30 days of the public hearing, the board may decline to pursue the designation as a District of Innovation or appoint a committee to develop a local innovation plan. The District of Innovation designation was passed into law by the 84th Texas Legislative Session. The law provides independent school districts the opportunity to gain exemption from many Texas Education Code requirements and allows for more local control.
