Cars for CASA rolls out funds for child advocacy

(ROCKWALL, TX — May 24, 2017) Cars for CASA returned to the Harbor parking lot for its annual afternoon of hot wheels and good times.

The auto show has been raising funds for the past 12 years to benefit Lone Star CASA, or Court Appointed Special Advocates. CASA is an organization that allows regular citizens to volunteer as advocates for foster children in court by making recommendations to judges on a child’s behalf.

The Best in Show winners for this year included:

Best Interior: James Best, Silver 1955 Chevrolet Bell Air

Best Graphics: Chuck Bigelow, Red with Flames 1932 Ford 3 Window Coupe

Best Engine: James Best, Blue 1957 Bel Air Gasser

Best Paint: Don Silaf, Fresco Green 1937 Ford Convertible

Best of Show Rat Rod: Jeff Garner, Rust Colored 1947 Ford

Best of Show Motorcycle:  Josh Pierson, Red 2007 Harley Davidson Road Glide

Best of Show Truck: Randy Manns, Orange 1950 Chevrolet Pickup

Best of Show Car: Randy Dicken Prowler, Orange 1967 Chevrolet Camaro

Lone Star CASA Executive Director Lucille Bell said over 350 cars and motorcycles were registered for this year’s event.

“The 2017 Cars for CASA classic car show was another overwhelming success,” Bell said. “There were a wide variety of cars and motorcycles on hand ranging from the classics (’55 Chevys, vintage Corvettes) to off-the-chart Street Rods and even late model exotics.  Some of those in attendance have been coming since the first Cars for CASA in 2006.”

Bell explained the importance of Cars for CASA not only as a major fundraiser for the organization, but also as a beacon for raising awareness in the surrounding community.

“This event provides Lone Star CASA an opportunity to raise awareness about its mission—to train and support community volunteers to advocate for the best interests of children in Rockwall and Kaufman Counties who are in the court system as a result of abuse or neglect—as well as being the largest fund-raising event for this CASA program,” Bell said. “We want to thank our sponsors that have made this event the success that it is and invite you and your business to join us and make this event an even larger success in 2018.”
