Heath native graduates from US Coast Guard Academy

(HEATH, TX — May 22, 2017) Timothy Austin Duncan (Timbo) graduated from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy on May 17, 2017 with a bachelor of science degree in Civil Engineering and a commission as an ensign. Ensign Duncan is assigned to the Coast Guard Cutter Mellon WHEC 717 as a Student Engineer in Seattle, Washington.

While at the Academy, Duncan was named to the NEWMAC All Conference Team, voted as the NEWMAC Player of the week three times, voted Team Captain by his peers, and selected as the NEWMAC Division III featured player of the week.  Duncan holds two records: the single season home run record and also broke the 29 year old career home run record.

The Coast Guard Academy offers a four-year educational program designed to provide cadets the knowledge and experience essential to become leaders of character. Cadets are required to devote themselves to an honor concept and after graduation go directly into positions of leadership in service to others.

Timbo is the son of Tim and Norma Duncan of Heath, Texas and a graduate of Heath High School where he was on the 2012 state championship 4A baseball team.

On an average day, the U.S. Coast Guard:
• conducts 45 search and rescue cases; saves 10 lives; saves over $1.2M in property;
• conducts 57 waterborne patrols of critical maritime infrastructure;
• screens 360 merchant vessels for potential security threats prior to arrival in U.S. ports;
• conducts 14 fisheries conservation boardings; investigates 35 pollution incidents; and
• facilitates movement of $8.7B worth of goods and commodities through the Nation’s Maritime Transportation System.
