Blood drive at Lake Pointe Church July 15

(ROCKWALL, TX – June 23, 2017) Life is a gift – no matter how long it is. The gift of blood can add extra life moments when days, minutes and even seconds count. Giving blood is an extraordinary thing that ordinary people can do for each other.

A wide array of Texans could receive blood transfusions this summer. Some hospital patients require blood to survive a motor vehicle accident. A difficult childbirth could necessitate that a new mother receives a transfusion. And others might be fighting for six more months of life due to an aggressive cancer diagnosis.

When you give blood, the gifts for life could look something like these: grandparents with little time left might see a grandchild start college; a father could escort his daughter down the aisle, rather than sit in a hospital bed; and families create precious summer memories together.

Lake Pointe Church is hosting a blood drive from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, July 15, at 701 Interstate 30. For more information or to schedule an appointment time, contact Mike Larriviere at 972-772-1028.

Carter BloodCare says to #GiveForLife. Whole blood can be donated every 56 days. Other types of blood donations can be given more frequently. Make an appointment at a Carter BloodCare donor center near you, or donate at a local community blood drive. Carter BloodCare urges eligible blood donors to consider giving two to three times a year, if possible. Make an appointment time this summer.

Remember to eat a nutritious meal and drink plenty of water at least an hour before giving blood. All donors must weigh at least 110 pounds, feel well on the day of donation, and present a government-issued photo ID each time they give blood.

Potential blood donors may volunteer beginning at age 16 with parental consent; 17-year-olds may give independently and there is no upper age limit for donating blood. For more information on donor eligibility and to make an appointment, call 1-800-366-2834 or visit carterbloodcare.org.
