Awards Ceremony wraps up successful YMCA Angel Camp

(ROCKWALL, TX – July 25, 2017) Kids and staff of the J.E.R. Chilton YMCA at Rockwall’s Angel Camp program concluded another exciting summer camp with a celebratory Closing Ceremony on July 21.

Campers and their families ate up some delicious Italian cuisine catered by Valentino’s Ristorante in Rowlett and dessert provided by Nothing Bundt Cakes.  Angel Camp Director Makala Methvin and camper Landon Methvin kicked the party off with a touching duet performance of “Love is an Open Door”, followed by awards such as “Best Smile” and “Most Cooperative” presented by Makala and special guests Rockwall Police Department Lieutenant Andy Villarreal and Dodie’s Cajun Diner at The Harbor Co-owner Gabe Nicolella.

For the past four years, Dodie’s has donated proceeds from its Annual Crawfish Fest to Angel Camp, which provides fun day camp experiences to youth ages 5 to 18 with special needs. Nicolella presented the Angel Camp program with a $6,000 check raised from this year’s Crawfish Fest held in April. “It’s our pleasure to get to hold this event each year to benefit the Angel Camp program at the YMCA,” Nicolella said. “It’s a great cause and we enjoy getting to do it every year.”

Every summer, Angel Camp at the J.E.R. Chilton YMCA at Rockwall offers a way for kids with special needs to have a camp experience they might otherwise not be able to have, with fun activities like archery, riflery (BBs), crafts, swimming, canoeing, group games, field trips and even a ride aboard Seawolf on Lake Ray Hubbard courtesy of Captain Scott Self with Sail With Scott.
