Hot Rocks Bike Ride returns to Rockwall

Registration underway for August 12th event

(ROCKWALL, TX — July 12, 2017) Get ready to ride. The 31st annual Hot Rocks Bike Ride, hosted by the Rockwall Noon Rotary Club, will return August 12, 2017. You can register online NOW at www.HotRocksBikeRide.com.

This year’s ride includes 12, 24, and 42 mile routes and the main event: a 100k. The ride was originally designed to be a tune up for the Hotter N’ Hell Hundred Ride in Wichita Falls, which will be two weeks after Hot Rocks on August 24-27. But now riders of all ages and skills level can enjoy Hot Rocks by participating in one of our shorter routes.

All Hot Rocks participants will receive a free t-shirt and a free lunch. Sandwiches will be provided by Applebee’s, soup by Luby’s, and barbecue sponsored by Cendera Funding followed by ice cream treats provided by Oak Farms Dairy.

Six rest stops stocked with ice cold water, Gatorade, and fresh fruit are scattered over the course, ranging from 5 to 10 miles apart. This year, to encourage rest stop experiences that are better than ever, riders will vote on their favorite rest stops after the event and the top 2 will receive prizes.

Hot Rocks Chair Greg Blair said this year’s courses were redesigned in 2016 specifically with safety in mind. The ride will take place on the same route as last year, with the exception of an additional 2-mile loop through Rockwall Industrial Park early in the 100k.

“The changes were made for purposes of safety, minimizing traffic congestion, and enhancing the aesthetic beauty of the ride, as it largely takes place in rural northern Rockwall and southern Collin Counties,” Blair said. “The course is full of rolling hills and corn fields, with surprisingly light traffic for a ride in the Dallas Metroplex.”

Riders in the 100k route will take off at 7:30 a.m., while riders in the 12, 24, and 42 mile routes will take off at 8:30 a.m. Rockwall police officers will precede the first group of riders to keep them safe as they travel through intersections.

Proceeds from Hot Rocks go directly to local scholarships for graduating seniors from both Rockwall and Rockwall-Heath High School. In previous years, Hot Rocks has raised over $30,000 for students.
