9/11 Remembrance Ceremony at Rest Haven

(ROCKWALL, TX – August 23, 2017) The new City of Rockwall Fire Chief, Kenneth Cullins, will be the guest speaker at a 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony hosted by Rest Haven Funeral Home & Memorial Park. The community event, marking the 16th Anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, will honor the lives of the first responders killed in the line of duty that day and bring special honor to our local first responders. The ceremony will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, September 11th at Rest Haven Memorial Park in Rockwall.  We are also honored to have the Amy Parks-Heath Starlight Singers share patriotic songs with us.

At the World Trade Center in New York City, 2,753 people were killed when hijacked American Airlines Flight 11 and United Airlines Flight 175 were intentionally crashed into the north and south towers.  Of the first responders killed during the attack and eventual collapse of the towers, 343 were NYC firefighters, 23 were NYC police officers and 37 were NYC Port Authority officers.  At the Pentagon in Washington, 184 people were killed when hijacked American Airlines Flight 77 crashed into the building.  Near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, 40 passengers and crew members aboard United Airlines Flight 93 died when the plane crashed into a field. It is widely speculated that the hijackers’ original target was either the White House or the U.S. Capitol, but crashed in the field after the passengers and crew fought to retake control of the flight deck.

Rest Haven Funeral Home & Memorial Park is located at 2500 State Highway 66 East, Rockwall, TX 75087.  There will be tented seating at the event, and groups larger than 20 are encouraged to reserve seating. Light refreshments will be served following the ceremony.  For more information, please call 972-771-8641, or you can follow event details on Facebook @RestHavenFuneralHome.
