Breakfast Rotary welcomes WWII veteran at Aug. 1 meeting

(ROCKWALL, TX — August 7, 2017) Rockwall Breakfast Rotary was honored to have C. B. Purdue as their guest speaker August 1. C. B. was Chief Master Sergeant, USAF and bombardier on board the B-17 bomber during World War II and made twenty-five bombing runs. He told how his 25th bombing run over Nazi Germany ended tragically.

The German fighter came from behind and after strafing the big plane, eventually would hit the tail section, severing it. Out of a crew of nine, C. B. was one of the five that bailed out and survived. His knee was injured as he landed and then he found himself face-to-face with a Nazi infantryman. He spent the next few months in Stalag 1 in Northern Germany until the Russians invaded and liberated the camp.

Breakfast Rotary wants to say thank you to Chief Master Sergeant C. B. Purdue for his service, bravery and love for his country. He is a great example of patriotism for all of us – an honorable member of The Greatest Generation.
