City of Rockwall Mosquito Fogging Program begins next week

(ROCKWALL, TX – August 30, 2017)  The City of Rockwall mosquito abatement program has continually monitored mosquito populations in live mosquito traps in various locations around the City. Those samples are sent to the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) to be tested for West Nile virus. The State informed the City that two live mosquitoes tested positive for West Nile virus, but there are no reported human cases of West Nile virus within the city limits.

Based upon the recommendation of the City Health Official, the City of Rockwall staff is initiating a mosquito abatement program next week consisting of fogging the select targeted areas within the city for six consecutive days: Tuesday, September 5 through Thursday, September 7 near Tubbs Road, and near Memorial Drive Friday, September 8 through Sunday, September 10 between the hours of 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. See attached maps for spraying locations.

If you would like to request that your residence not be sprayed, please call (972) 771-7761 or email the Parks & Recreation Department at .

The mosquito trapping and monitoring program began in early spring and will continue throughout the fall. However, DSHS emphasizes that personal protection is still the best defense against mosquito bites. For more information and tips on prevention, please visit the city website here.
