Home sweet home

Home sweet home

(ROCKWALL, TX — August 29, 2017) As many of you are probably aware, my fiancée and I were lucky enough to become the renters of our very first house on July 30.

We happened upon this quaint little home one day while out scouring the Rockwall neighborhoods for those all-too-uncommon “For Rent” or “For Lease” signs plopped in the yard, as I was to be moving out soon from my apartment in Garland. I have to admit, my hopes weren’t high that we’d find any homes that were leasing, much less for a rate we could afford. Boy was I wrong! We ended up finding about five homes that were for rent, including our new home-to-be which had a sign out front reading “Available soon.” The minute we saw it, we were smitten. It has a slightly odd yet beautiful wood and brick exterior, with a little garage and a BACK YARD! And the entire yard is shaded due to the gorgeous large trees surrounding the property, a huge plus with these hot Texas summers.

We toured the inside and were pleased to find the home had wood flooring throughout most of the rooms, and had not one, not two, but THREE bedrooms. The garage is just big enough to fit a small car (we’re not drawing straws, it’s a perfect fit for my fiancée’s car) plus some space for storage. The kitchen is very cozy with a stovetop oven, a modern refrigerator, and a small dishwasher which was just recently installed. Sounds like we’re going to need it to, with all of the wonderful kitchenware we’ve received so far from registry gifts and wedding showers.

More good news: the home came with a fancy stackable washer and dryer!

Standing on the outside back porch, I couldn’t help but look out across the nice-sized yard and feel blessed for us to have come across something that couldn’t have been more perfect for us to begin our lives together. I kept thinking to myself, man, I get to do actual yardwork because I live in a house with an actual yard! That’s super cool!

It’s all been very surreal to me; I get to marry the woman I love this month, and we’ll be living together under one roof for the first time ever. By the time you’re reading this I’ll have moved all of my stuff in, and my fiancée will join me after the honeymoon. That’s one of the greatest things about this whole move; the house will be all set for us to come home and recharge our batteries from what’s going to be the best week of our lives.

And there’ll be many more ahead of us, of that I’m sure.
