(ROCKWALL, TX — August 9, 2017) The Rockwall High School Robotics team, Full Metal Jackets , recently competed at FIRST Texas Robotics Invitational offseason event in Houston. Over 30 teams from around Texas competed at this event.

Three weeks prior to the competition, the Full Metal Jackets trained their girl and mentor drive team for the Friday competition. This year’s game required a robot that can place gears to activate rotors and climb a rope to an airship control center. The drive teams learned how to efficiently drive, correctly place the robot in the starting position, and place gears. The mentors drive team placed 8th in their competition, an experience that saw students switching roles and teaching their mentors. The girls drive team placed 1st in the competition and were recognized by judges as the undefeated female drive team award winners.

In Saturday’s competition they rotated the girls and boys drive team, giving every student the opportunity to have a role as a drive team member.
