WATCH: Clinics available to help kids master multiplication

(ROCKWALL, TX – Sept. 3, 2017) In Texas elementary schools, multiplication is being introduced towards the end of 2nd grade.   For parents with kids who are struggling with their multiplication facts, fear not: Mathnasium of Rockwall-Heath can help.

Beginning Sept. 25, Mathnasium will offer an eight-week Multiplication Clinic designed to help young mathematicians develop a strong foundation in a skill that will be critically important in school and life in general. With instruction lead by Early Childhood Development Specialist Becky Behannon the clinic includes:

> Thorough assessment of your child’s current multiplication skills

> Individualized learning plan

> Eight Weeks of 24 one-hour sessions

> Opportunity to participate in games:

Multiplication Jeopardy

Multiplication Flash Master

Multiplication Card Sharks, and

Multiplication Wrap-Ups.

> Their sessions will end with a game of Multiplication Bingo to round out their experience.

The clinic will be held from Sept. 25-Nov. 16 on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings, beginning at 7 p.m. Mathnasium will also hold additional clinics throughout the school year from Jan. 8 to March 1, 2018 and March 19 to May 10, 2018. The clinics are limited to five kids per session on a first come, first serve basis. Registration is required to participate.

Mathnasium owners, Bob and Becky Barnes, said the clinics have a well-rounded approach to teaching multiplication that caters specifically to each child’s level of understanding.

“If we can make it more enjoyable and we’re using different types of formats to help them learn their multiplication, we’re going to reach them on some level,” Becky Barnes said.

As an added bonus, kids who participate in the clinics will also be able to participate in Mathnasium’s annual Multiplication Madness held in October. Featuring one hour of action-packed fun with multiplication, this event will see kids travel through four different game stations in one hour beginning at 6:30 p.m., earning “stars” when they complete each station. At 7:15 p.m., participants will join together for a game of Multiplication Bingo, followed by a trip to the Reward Cabinet to claim well-earned prizes.

Bob Barnes said the fast-paced event always has kids coming back for more.

“We’ve had boys and girls who have come in not wanting to do it and at the end of the hour, they want to come back. They absolutely love it,” he said.

Multiplication Madness begins October 6 and runs every Friday evening through October 27. Multiplication Madness is free and open to all Rockwall/Heath and surrounding area students.  Reservations are required to participate, and space is limited to the first 20 students who enroll.

With effective programs like its clinics and Multiplication Madness that make math fun for kids, it’s no small wonder that Mathnasium of Rockwall-Heath was recently named Best Tutoring/Learning Center in Living Magazine’s 2017 Best Of Readers’ Choice contest.

“We appreciate our customers being willing to recommend us. A lot of our children come to us from referrals, and it means a lot to us when people show their support,” Becky said.
