Local student selected for LULAC Youth Leadership Seminar in Washington, D.C.

(ROCKWALL, TX – Sept. 13, 2017) Rockwall LULAC (League of United Latin American Citizens) congratulates Vilma Ledferd, a junior at Royse City High School, on her selection to participate in the LULAC National Educational Service Centers’ 2017 Washington Youth Leadership Seminar.

This year’s seminar will be held September 27th – October 1st in the nation’s capitol. “It’s a great honor for me to participate in LULAC’s 2017 Washington Youth Leadership Seminar,” Vilma said. “I have seen how Rockwall LULAC has helped my community build resilience through education. I look forward to learning more from this important seminar so I might help other communities expand educational opportunities.”

The Washington Youth Leadership Seminar (WYLS) is the LULAC National Educational Service Centers’ (LNESC) annual, four-day leadership development program that brings together young Latino leaders from across the US and Puerto Rico to Washington, DC and immerses them in public policy issues.

Once in Washington, Vilma will work with LNESC staff and LULAC leaders from across the country to advance a platform on items of her particular interest. After meeting with the major players on the issues, she will collaborate on a position piece, which is then sent to her congressional leaders.

Rockwall LULAC is delighted that Vilma will be representing the next generation of LULAC leaders at this important event.
