Local boutique offers free homecoming dresses

(ROCKWALL, TX—October 6, 2017) It is homecoming weekend for Rockwall High School, and one local boutique wants to make sure every girl attending gets the chance to feel like a princess.

Hazel and Olive, located at 304 N San Jacinto Street, is offering free homecoming dresses to anyone who can’t afford their own. The dresses are hanging on a rack on the store’s front porch, ready and waiting for girls to come and take them home.

Boutique owner Taylor McMillan said she and the Hazel and Olive team are always searching for ways they can give back or meet needs in the community.

“We were just thinking of the girls here and realized this was a way we could meet a need,” McMillan said. “We hope that every girl in the area will have a chance to wear a dress and feel pretty for homecoming.”

McMillan said the dresses are from Hazel and Olive’s own inventory, but several community members have reached out on Facebook and offered to donate their own dresses to the clothing rack as well. The store will put out new dresses each day.

“People can come up and take one without coming in if they want to, that way no one has to feel awkward or embarrassed,” McMillan said. “Or they are more than welcome to come in and try them on.”

McMillan said that any leftover dresses will be donated to Helping Hands of Rockwall County after homecoming weekend.
