RHS cross country varsity teams qualify for regional meet

(ROCKWALL, TX — October 17, 2017) The Rockwall High School cross country team competed at the District Championship on Oct. 14 at UT-Tyler.

The girls had a great meet and not only won the district championship but also had the district champion, Emelia Landivar-Nunez placing 1st with a time of 19:49. The top 15 individuals medaled and six of seven girls in the top 15.  Pushing each other the whole race was Kate Avery place 2nd in a time of 19:51, Liah Collins placing 7th with a time of 20:45, Olivia Cade placing 13th with a time of 21:32, Ana Gonzales placing 14th with a time of 21:33, Ariell Hopkins placing 15th with a time of 21:46 and Annie Mckee was the final contributor on the team with a time of 23:12 finishing in 28th place.

On the boys side, the boys fight was tougher.  They finished 3rd and qualified for the regional championship.  First place finisher on the team was freshman River Hill placing 4th with a time of 16:25, Austin Shumake was the 2nd scorer for the Yellowjackets  placing 8th with a time of 17:00, Brayden Ortiz placing 9th with a time of 17:02, Jack Hittson-Smith placing 24th with a time of 18:14 and the final scorer for the Jackets on Saturday was Joseph Martin placing 32nd with a time of 18:39. Also competing for the boys varsity team was Tyler Mcarty placing 36th with a time of 18:48 and Jared Pugh placing 51st with a time of 20:01.

The JV girls also had a great meet and are the district Champions.  The JV boys fared the same as the Varsity guys pulling out a 3rd place finish.

The varsity teams will compete in the regional meet Monday, October 23.
