Phillip Hatfield to run for Heath City Council Place 3

(HEATH, TX — February 1, 2018) Phillip Hatfield—author, leadership speaker, and business consultant; personally mentored and trained by Zig Ziglar; and a successful C- Level executive for over 25 years—is running a “one-legged race” for City Council Place 3 on May 5, 2018.

Hatfield is disabled from a horrible accident in 2008, and today is a left leg amputee. Understanding obstacles, barriers, and changes in life and business makes Phillip uniquely qualified to serve, as he has experienced the positive power of change.

“Heath needs strong leaders who come to the table with ideas, not ideology,” Hatfield said. “I look forward to being an independent voice on the council, giving a genuine listening ear to all of Heath’s citizens. That includes our entire city: our youth, our seniors, our diverse population of citizens. It includes our communities, our neighborhoods, our businesses, and our future business developments and development partners. Heath needs council members who will engage in meaningful dialog with the community and then be the voice of the people. As scripture says, ‘Come, let us reason together.’”

As residents of Heath for many years, the Hatfields raised their kids in Amy Parks Elementary, Cain Middle School, and Rockwall Heath High School. Hatfield said that choosing this city as home has been key to his and his children’s success in life, and that it’s time for him to give back.

“I care deeply and passionately about my community,” he said. “For me, serving on the city council is not an opportunity to get involved in politics, but in public service. I want to do all I can to contribute to preserving all that’s great about Heath and our rural country charm, and to making it an even better place to live, work, and raise a family.”

Unlike the typical candidate, Hatfield has not served as an appointed insider on any of the city’s many boards or commissions, and has not been affiliated with interest groups that are active in city politics.

“I view that as an asset,” he said. “I have always been an independent voice seeking winning solutions for everyone involved, and I will bring that

independence to the table as I represent every citizen in Heath to the City Council.”

Hatfield has a deep understanding of the issues facing our community and is forging relationships with citizens across the city. He promotes fairness, justice, and equality. His business and relationship skills provide a solid background for work on the council.

He said his campaign will focus on:

  • increasing participation in city government by residents, making sure their voices are heard and represented;
  • restoring unity on the council;
  • improving core city services such as street, park maintenance, and future development issues;
  • pursuing more transparency in budgeting, particularly in regard to the city’s current responsibilities and future

“I am fortunate enough now to be in a position where I can devote more of my time and energy to my community,” he said. “I wasn’t born in Heath, but I chose to sink my roots here. It has been a great choice for my family, and I want to make sure it remains a good choice for your children and mine.”

Hatfield is 58 years old and married to his “bride” as he calls her, Erika Hatfield, and has three grown kids.
