Battle of the Books offers fun reading challenge for kids

(ROCKWALL, TX — May 4, 2018) Rockwall ISD recently held The Battle of the Books Competition, a reading incentive program designed to encourage third through sixth grade students to read and have fun while competing with their peers.

“These students have been working diligently all year,” said Rikki Smith, director of instructional technology and media services at Rockwall ISD. “They are already winners for their dedication, effort and extra time in preparing for this contest today.”

Third through sixth grade students at all 14 elementary campuses were given the opportunity to be on a team and prepare for competition at the district level by reading selected books on the grade appropriate reading list.

The elementary Library Media Specialist facilitated the campus teams by selecting students for each team, making available the list of 10 books for required reading and supporting students throughout the year as they read the books.
