Cynthia Ann and Quanah Parker are two important names in U. S. frontier history.  Much can be learned from the dramatic story of these two courageous individuals.  In 1836, a Comanche raiding party took Cynthia Ann from her family.  Over the following years, she became wife to a Comanche chief and mother to children, including Quanah.  After Cynthia Ann was taken back by Texas Rangers, Quanah became one of the most important Comanche leaders both in war and peace.  The THC Texas Lakes Trail Region and Texas Trail of Fame sponsor the exhibit in an effort to bring more attention to the important Native American heritage in our region.

You are invited to attend the Opening Reception on Sunday, August 19, 2018 from 4:00 – 6:00 pm.  Meet local historian Garvin Tate, Western artists Doug Agee, Susie Varner, Jim Bryant, and storyteller with Native American flutes Richard Nash.

Historian Garvin Tate will present additional information about Quanah Parker at the Stodghill Lecture Series on September 14, 2018 at noon in the historic, downtown Courthouse in the third floor courtroom.  The lecture is free and open to the public.
