Rockwall, Heath sailors win third place Koch Cup at prestigious sea scout regatta

Third Place Koch Cup Winners: Team USA 19, Skipper Andrew Vandling Heath, Texas (United States) & Crewman Isaac Barkley Heath, Texas (United States)

(ROCKWALL/HEATH, TX – July 20, 2018) On July 12, the Ninth Biennial William I. Koch International Sea Scout Cup at Sea Star Base Galveston concluded with a world-class banquet where victors were honored in Koch Cup fashion. Skipper Andrew Vandling and Crewman Isaac Barkley, representing Sea Scout Ship 1000 of Rockwall and Rush Creek Yacht Club in Heath as USA Team 19, placed third overall in the Championship Fleet.

Thirty two teams competed in this very prestigious sea scout regatta at the Sea Star Base in Galveston, including participants from Australia, Brazil, Denmark, Finland, Hon Kong, Ireland, New Zealand, Poland, South Africa, and the United States. The local boys earned a spot to compete back in September at the Southern Region Qualifier, the Aggie Cup. The boys competed in FJs, which are two person boats used for collegiate sailing.

Both Vandling and Barkley attend Rockwall-Heath High School.  Vandling will be a junior and Barkley will be a freshman in the fall.
