New Parks in Fate

(FATE, TX – Oct. 17, 2018)Concurrently during the Monday, October 15 Royse City Independent School District School Board meeting and Fate City Council meeting, a sales contract was signed for the acquisition of 19 acres of school property to the City of Fate for the development of a community park.

At the same meeting, the City acquired 1.4 acres of land in downtown for a future central trail head.

The park will be located south of Interstate 30 and adjacent to the current Harry H. Herndon Intermediate School.

“The City of Fate is a tremendous partner to our school district. We are excited to see what they have in store for this property. Herndon Intermediate is a wonderful school site that will be even greater with the addition of an adjacent park,” said Superintendent Kevin Worthy.

Mayor Lorne Megyesi stated “Parks provide an enhanced quality of life for Fate residents.” He continued, “The Fate City Council is committed to providing community gathering places for families to support a healthy lifestyle and space to gather outside to play.”

Plans for the development of the park will be discussed in future City meetings.
Dallas, Garland and Northeastern (DGNO) Railroad also entered into an agreement for the sale of 1.4 acres in the downtown area. This land will be added to the existing downtown park as a trail head.

“This purchase is a first step in building a network of trails envisioned in the Fate Comprehensive Plan and the Rockwall County Open Space Master Plan,” stated City Manager Michael Kovacs. “We are excited to add this to the development of downtown.”
