Heart of Heath 5K

The City of Heath’s traditional Easter Saturday celebration on April 20 features the Heart of Heath 5k and 1-Mile Family Run with awards for the top 3 boys and top 3 girls!

What to expect:

*USATF Certified 5k course with chip-timed start and finish lines for 5k participants

*5k awards for top 3 overall plus top 3 males and females in each age bracket

*1-Mile Family Run—integrated into the 5k course, with same start and finish lines

*1-Mile Family Run awards for top 3 boys and top 3 girls

*Dri-fit T-shirts for 5k and Family Run participants while supplies last
—Register and pick up packets prior to the event to ensure you get your 2019 edition!

* Giant-size games like chess, checkers, Jenga and Connect 4

*Complimentary healthy treats including mini fruit smoothies from Smoothie King

*Prize drawings for registered runners

*The Easter Bunny!

The fun begins in Towne Center Park with a runners’ warm up at 8 a.m.; the Family Run starts at 8:15; and the 5k is at 8:30 a.m. with awards and prizes afterwards. Proceeds benefit Heath’s parks and trails.

Heath Holiday in the Park

The City of Heath Special Events Board presents a hometown holiday celebration 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Towne Center Park with food, fun, and Santa. Enjoy food trucks, complimentary Christmas cookies and hot cocoa. The event includes a Christmas tree lighting featuring a countdown with the crowd as the City “flips the switch” on its beautiful Christmas tree at 6:30 p.m. The program will also feature musical performances by the Amy Parks, Dorothy Pullen and Linda Lyon Elementary School Honor Choirs, plus the Cain Middle School Band and Orchestra.

Sheri Stodghill Lecture Series: Heath History

Bernice Barnes, fourth great granddaughter of Sterling Barnes, one of the first settlers of Rockwall County, will portray Lucy Barnes Darr as part of the Stodghill Lecture Series.  Weather permitting, this lecture will be at 12 p.m. at the Heath Cemetery adjacent to the Baptist Church; alternatively, at the downtown historic courthouse.

City of Heath Annual Independence Day Parade & Celebration in the Park

For a patriotic hometown American experience, join the festivities at the City of Heath’s Annual Independence Day Parade on Wednesday, July 4.

Parade entry awards will be presented during a patriotic celebration immediately after the parade in Towne Center Park featuring a live barbershop quartet, recognition of our veterans and active military members, and free popsicles and pie! (Blueberry, cherry and buttermilk, of course.)

The parade announcer and judges (some of RISD’s finest faculty members) will be based on a flatbed stage near City Hall. If you plan to participate in the parade, please R.S.V.P. at www.heathtx.com so that your entry information can be shared with the crowd. This also facilitates the judging process, and allows Heath DPS officers to prepare for the utmost in safety and timing of intersection closures along the parade route.Staging for the parade is at 8 a.m., judging and awards are at 8:30 a.m., and the parade begins at 9 a.m. at Amy Parks-Heath Elementary School at 330 Laurence Drive. As always, the City of Heath invites veterans and active members from any branch of the U.S. Military to ride in the parade on the Veterans Float.

A Best Decorated Award is presented in several categories including: Community/Business Float; HOA/neighborhood Float; Bicycle; Wagon/Stroller; Golf Cart; Off-Road Vehicle; and Antique Car. There are also awards for Best Costume; Most Patriotic Pet; Most Spirited; and the Mayor’s Award.

*Please plan ahead for brief traffic delays. The intersection of Laurence Drive and FM 740/FM 1140 will be closed during the parade from approximately 9:15 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. on July 4. For weather alerts, stay tuned to the City’s Facebook page or go to the emergency alert page at www.heathtx.com Due to so many students and children participating, the City will follow the Rockwall ISD’s delay protocol for lightening strikes and severe weather. The parade may delayed up until 10 a.m. only due to traffic concerns.

Spring Sailing Lessons

Registration for Rush Creek Yacht Club Junior Sailing is open for Spring sailing lessons that will take place after school, and for our annual Spring Break Camp. Spring Sailing lessons will begin March 19, 2018 and go through the end of May 2018. Spring Break Camp will be held March 12th-March15th 9AM-4PM each day. All levels of experience are welcome. We have something for beginner sailors all the way to advanced sailors.

Sailing provides the opportunity for youth to not only learn nautical skills, but teaches lessons in responsibility, independence, and improves problem solving skills. Sailing is a life long sport that anyone can do at any age. Come join us for some fun on the water!

Holiday in the Park

Save the date for Santa! He’s coming to the City of Heath’s Annual Holiday in the Park hosted in Towne Center Park on December 1, 5:30-8:30 p.m.

All the sights and sounds of the season await Santa including the Christmas Tree lighting, music and complimentary hot cocoa, coffee and cookies. There will also be food trucks, children’s activities and miniature train rides.

Community Input Meeting | 6:30-8 p.m.
The City of Heath Park Board is hosting this community event to get your input on Parks, Trails and Open Space Master Plan now being developed in partnership with the Dallas-based consulting firm, la terra studio, inc. Ideas from all ages and life stage are welcome, including elementary, middle and high school age students.

Early Childhood PTA Round-Up

Join the parents of the Rockwall Heath Early Childhood PTA for a fun morning of splashing, bouncing, and more at Harry Meyers Splash Park and Pavilion! The fun begins at 9:30 a.m. Kona Ice will be available for purchase at 10 a.m.

Rhec PTA is a friendly group of area parents of children, ages birth to Kinder, who get together for monthly meetings, playdates, social activities, and philanthropy opportunities.

Heath Holiday in the Park

Join the City of Heath for another spectacular Holiday in the Park, hosted in Towne Center Park on Friday, December 2 from 5:30-8:30 p.m.

  • Count down with the crowd as the City “flips the switch” on its beautiful Christmas Tree at 7 p.m. The program will feature the sweet sounds of the Amy Parks and Dorothy Pullen Elementary School Honor Choirs, plus the exciting tunes of the Rockwall-Heath High School Jazz Band.
  • Have dinner in the Winter Village, featuring food trucks, a cozy outdoor dining area warmed by holiday lights, rides on two miniature trains, activity booths for the kids including a Christmas craft presented by Arstream Mobile Art Studio, and a holiday photo booth, sponsored by Milestone Electric. Be sure to get there in time to hear the amazing Cain Middle School Orchestra serenade diners from 6:15 to 6:45 p.m.
  • Warm up with complimentary hot cocoa and coffee throughout the evening, while Mrs. Claus and her elves serve complimentary Christmas cookies, home baked and donated by the National Charity League and Rockwall Women’s League.
  • Tis’ the season to give, so Rockwall County Helping Hands’ elves will also be onsite to collect your new unwrapped toys or cash contributions for those kiddos who could use your cheer this year.
  • Treat yourself to a stop at the Heath Holiday Shoppe, where you can purchase the Second Edition 2016 Heath Christmas Ornament and Spirit Wear T-shirt.
  • Of course, the star of the evening is Santa. After his grand arrival during the Christmas Tree Lighting program, he will visit with each child in his vintage sleigh, nestled in a picture perfect scene. Be sure to bring the cameras and dress for the weather!

FUMC Heath All-You-Can-Eat Fish Fry

FUMC Heath invites the community to an all-you-can-eat fish fry at the church on Saturday, May 14, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Folks can get their fill of fresh fried fish and sides while benefiting mission committee projects such as Genesis Center and Backpack Project. Tickets for adults are $12, $5 for kids 12 and under, and FREE for kids 2 and under. Tickets must be purchased by Sunday, May 1. Call the church at 972-771-6732 to reserve a ticket.
