JER Chilton Rockwall YMCA unveils plaque to honor namesake, Bob Chilton

Rockwall, TX (September 25, 2023) – On Thursday, September 21, JER Chilton YMCA in Rockwall held a special event to commemorate the contributions of Bob Chilton, who was an avid supporter and friend.

The evening kicked off with a ribbon cutting with the Royse City Chamber of Commerce.

All in attendance spoke to the significant role Bob Chilton played in the community and as namesake of the Rockwall YMCA whose mission, To put Christian values into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind, and body for all, was something he believed in.

“The JER Chilton YMCA has been a part of the community since 1969; serving as a social connector, community builder, and valuable resource to improve the quality of life in Rockwall County,” opened Mike Atkins, JER Chilton YMCA Chairman of the Board. “If you can remember how the original building looked with the outdoor pool, you know we’ve gone through quite a transformation, and we owe a lot of that to Bob Chilton.”

Rockwall Judge, Brian Williams, speaks to the many contributions of Bob Chilton.

Brian Williams, Board Chairman during the Chilton remodel, recalled receiving the contribution from Mr. Chilton and how he wanted to be personally involved in the building by taking many of the photos used to decorate the space. “Mr. Chilton made a commitment to the Rockwall YMCA and that’s why we have what we do today,” said Williams. Noting the many people and families walking into the building daily, he said “None of this was possible without Mr. Chilton. I am so proud his name is on this building.”
