Apply now for Allen’s Citizens Police Academy

Anyone 18 years or older who lives or works in the City of Allen may apply to participate in the free Citizens Police Academy, a 12-week course that begins Thursday, Sept. 9 and covers everything from criminal law and patrol tactics to surveillence.

The course is presented twice a year by the Allen Police Department’s Community Relations Unit to educate the community about their local police department.

Field trips to such facilities as the Collin County Detention Center, Collin County Medical Examiner’s Office and the police shooting range are part of the program.

Upon graduation, Citizens Police Academy alumni are eligible to train for Volunteers in Policing (VIPs) and Citizens on Patrol (COPs). VIPs may help at police headquarters with front desk duties, vehicle maintenance tasks, assisting Internal Affairs and Record Units, and doing clerical work for the Criminal Investigations Division.

To learn more, call the Community Relations Unit at 972-678-2500 or visit cityofallen.org.
