(Garland) On the final day before the pools at Hawaiian Falls are drained for the season, the Garland waterpark will welcome man and his best friend to a special Wags & Waves event, benefiting the Metroplex Animal Coalition.

About 1,000 human visitors and more than 1,100 dogs of various sizes, shapes and breeds are expected to participate – which makes this third annual event a world record contender for most dogs at a waterpark.

Bring your four-legged friends to Wags & Waves from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17 to help break the record in the Guiness Book of World Records. Hawaiian Falls-Garland is located at 4550 N. Garland Ave., one mile south of George Bush Tollway (190) and N. Garland Ave.

Canines will strut their stuff during the Doggie Couture costume contest at 2 p.m.  Goofy Pet Tricks will follow at 2:30. There will be entertainment and demonstrations, celebrity emcees, a Doggie Mall, and plenty of time to frolic in the Wave Pool, do the dog-paddle in the Fountain Pool or float in the Lazy River.

Admission is $20 per person, which includes two dogs.  All dogs must have complete, up-to-date vaccinations and rabies shots, as well as being spayed/neutered.

The Metroplex Animal Coalition is an alliance of more than 50 nonprofit animal welfare-organizations in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. All proceeds will benefit the programs of MAC and its member groups such as Animal Guardians of America, Feral Friends, Legacy Boxer Rescue, Cat Matchers, Metroplex Mutts and DFW Rescue Me.
