Rockwall’s Pumpkin Patch opens for 23rd year

(Rockwall) Scores of area youth recently joined other volunteers to unload truckloads of pumpkins for one of Rockwall’s most popular fall events – the Pumpkin Patch.

In its 23rd year of operation, Rockwall’s original Pumpkin Patch is  now open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., seven days a week, through Sunday, Oct. 30.

Visitors will discover pumpkins and gourds in all shapes and sizes, decorative squash, corn stalks, hay bales, and other seasonal items for sale at the Patch, located at 1201 Ridge Road in the Ridge Road Shopping Center.

A visit to the Patch has become a tradition for area families.  Some young parents who visited the Patch when they were youngsters are now bringing their own children for a photograph with the pumpkins.  In addition to free photo-ops, the popular Hay Maze is waiting for adventurers to discover the secret path to the exit.

Saturdays are special for children at the Patch, with activities including Story Time, crafts projects and face painting.  Other special attractions include a magician, puppet show, balloon art, and the Rockwall Children’s Chorus.

See rockwallpumpkinpatch.com for a schedule of activities at the Pumpkin Patch.

In addition to a field of carving pumpkins, the Pumpkin Patch also has a variety of specialty pumpkins, decorative gourds, squashes, and Indian corn.  There will be bales of hay and otherwise difficult-to-find bundles of cornstalks.  The popular specialty deli items such as pumpkin butter, jalapeno jelly, peppered pickles and candied jalapenos are also for sale.

The Original Pumpkin Patch benefits the Friends of the Rockwall County Library and the Council of Catholic Women of Our Lady of the Lake Church.  Proceeds benefit local projects of each of the organizations.  Those wishing to volunteer may sign up online at rockwallpumpkinpatch.com.
