ROCKWALL MAYOR’S MESSAGE

It’s the dawning of a new day in our city, the beginning of a new era – and I am very excited about our future as we move forward under the leadership of Rick Crowley, our new City Manager.

Since 1985, Rick has helped shaped what the City of Rockwall is today – a progressive city that has never lost its small town feeling, a great home for all ages and a top destination spot for visitors.

Rick Crowley

Rick has served us well as an administrative assistant, department head and assistant city manager.

Throughout that time, he has remained steady and dependable always with an eye to the future. Since I’ve known Rick, he has always impressed me as a thinking man, one that considers all sides of an issue before making a decision. If he made a misstep, he admitted it and considered it a learning process. In our many discussions since I first joined the council, he has always been fully knowledgeable about whatever was at issue, which helped me make an educated decision based on facts.

Those are some of the reasons I supported him for the city manager’s job. The council and I had 61 candidates for the city manager job to consider as the result of a national search before we finally narrowed the list down to less than 10 very well qualified people.

In making my decision, I was always cognitive not only of Rick’s proven abilities and his love for Rockwall, but also the history he holds of our city – to me, a valuable asset.

He is well-liked and respected by city employees and his peers throughout the state, and he is a man with great vision for what Rockwall can be. As our assistant city manager, Rick did his job well.

But perhaps what impressed me most was his transformation during the months he served as our interim city manager. For the first few weeks he kept things going, no small job for a city our size. Then he visibly started taking on the job of not only running the city, but also, most importantly, he began moving our city forward with new ideas and programs.

In effect, he put aside the title interim. Rick Crowley became the city manager. He did the job he was expected to do – what he was paid to do.

With the new Bush tollway connection and completion of John King Boulevardand the FM-549 interchanges, our city is on the verge of becoming the place for development. If unemployment drops and the building market picks up as predicted, our tax base will benefit. I know Rick Crowley is the best qualified person to take us on that journey.

Please join me in congratulating him on his new position and giving him your support.
