Girl Scouts 100th Anniversary Experience at State Fair of Texas

(Dallas) August 19, 2012 – A Texas-sized experiential exhibition, The Girl Scouts 100th Anniversary Experience, will bring together Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas, alumnae, fair-goers and Girl Scouts across the United States to celebrate Girl Scouts 100th anniversary year at the 2012 State Fair of Texas from Sept. 28 through Oct. 21 in Dallas.

Created and produced by Dallas-based Corporate Magic, the hands-on exhibition will animate the historic Texas Hall of State with unique technology, memory-evoking experiences and opportunities to learn more about the first 100 years of Girl Scouts.

The Girl Scouts 100th Anniversary Experience, presented by 100th Anniversary sponsor AT&T, will feature a virtual Girl Scout troop and campfire, digital replica of Girl Scouts’ founder Juliette Gordon Low’s home as it was in 1912 in Savannah, GA, mobile app scavenger hunt, life-sized cookie boxes – large enough to walk through – highlighting the importance of Girl Scout cookies, and much more. The Exhibition will take place in the Texas Hall of State in Fair Park and will run for the duration of the State Fair, open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to showcase both the history of the past 100 years of Girl Scouts as well as our vision for the development of female leadership for the 21st century,” said Colleen Walker, CEO of Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas.“As the culmination of our year-long national celebration this exhibition will truly astound fair visitors with its high-tech, high-touch features. Girl Scouts is the premier leadership development organization for girls in the world. Working closely with Corporate Magic and AT&T, we think this exhibition illustrates the potential girls and women have to change our world.”

During the Fair, GSNETX will feature special activities and programming for girls and volunteers. The exhibition will also be staffed with volunteers and supporters from the northeast Texas area, including Girl Scouts, alumnae and corporate partners.

“This is going to be one spectacular, interactive exhibition,” said Stephen Dahlem, senior creative director at Corporate Magic. “If you think of it in Disney terms, the Girl Scout Experience will be the Cinderella castle of the State Fair. It’s going to be a fun, never-ending photo-op moment that will leave a lasting impression upon everyone who visits.”

“This high-tech, interactive exhibit will immerse fairgoers in the Girl Scout experience – from its rich heritage to its ongoing commitment to develop female leadership for the 21st century,” said Cathy Coughlin, Senior Executive Vice President and Global Marketing Officer for AT&T Inc., and the honorary chairperson of GSNETX 100th Anniversary. “We’re proud to support the Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas as they celebrate this amazing milestone.”

More aspects of the exhibition will include a history of Girl Scouts in Texas and of the GSNETX Centers of Excellence. Additionally, each day at 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. all exhibition attendees will go home with a sleeve of Girl Scout cookies to enjoy. A deep-fried Girl Scout Samoas cookie, topped with caramel and coconut, will also be available for purchase during the Fair.
