(Rockwall)August 24, 2012 – The City of Rockwall produces some amazing home grown talent. We have political greats like U.S. Representative Ralph Hall; sports champs like The Heath Hawks, Texas State Class 4-A Baseball Champions; musical talent and American Idol contender Jason Castro, and many more.
The latest to join this inspiring list of greats, is 19 year-old Rockwall resident and Miss Texas hopeful Katie Robertson.
Katie has lived her high school years in Rockwall, graduating from Rockwall-Heath High school last year. She is currently a sophomore at Texas A&M University in College Station, pursuing a degree in Communications.
“I decided to enter the Miss Texas pageant mainly for the experience it will give me and hopefully, if I win, for the scholarship prize I can apply toward my education. The training I will receive as a contestant, from on-camera to public speaking, will be invaluable to me in my pursuit of a communication degree and ultimately in my chosen career field,” said Robertson.
The MISS TEXAS USA Pageant is the official state preliminary in the MISS USA/MISS UNIVERSE pageant. The pageant promises glamour, excitement, high level of competition and a great prize list. The winner will proceed on to represent Texas in the MISS USA Pageant. If she wins there, it’s on to the MISS UNIVERSE pageant (a Donald U. Trump and NBC Joint Venture).
The competition is divided into three categories: Personal Interview, Swimsuit, and Evening Gown. The judges look for an all-around winner. Judging is based on poise, personality, intelligence and beauty. In addition to choosing MISS TEXAS USA, awards will be presented to the Most Photogenic, the Swimsuit Winner, People’s Choice, and Miss Congeniality.
The 2012 pageant will be held in Houston, Labor Day weekend, with the presentation show scheduled for Saturday evening, September 1st, and the Final Show on Sunday, September 2.
Miss Texas USA is a life-changing experience. However, it is not only the winner of the pageant but every participant who gains personal growth and reaps the benefits of competition and all of the experiences that go along with it.
“Taking risks and trying new things we may not be comfortable with is scary. But some of the greatest opportunities come from those very risks. I would rather go out on a limb and try to succeed at something and fail, then try to live with the question ‘what if,’” said Robertson.
