(Garland ISD) September 16, 2012 – The Garland ISD Council of PTAs kicked off the 2012-13 school year with its first meeting on September 5. Mayors Ron Jones of Garland and Todd Gottel of Rowlett, along with Mayor Pro Tem of Sachse Jared Patterson, were all in attendance.

The city leaders each read proclamations declaring September 3-7 as “Join Your Local PTA Week.”

A past president of elementary, middle school, and high school PTAs, Mayor Jones encouraged everyone to expand their involvement with issues affecting the education, health, and safety of our children.

Mayor Gottel said he believes that PTAs are an important part of education because they’re centered around student improvement. Mayor Pro Tem Patterson showed his appreciation for the many hours that PTA members volunteer to assist teachers, students, and schools.
