Williams MS students send ties to Africa

The staff and students are always looking for the next service project to give back to those in need.

The need for ties arose when WMS teacher Mrs. Barrett learned at her church there was a need in Africa.  Her teacher stated that he visited a school in Ateiku, Africa on a recent trip. He noted that the young men all had to wear ties but they were not able to afford them. The reason for wearing ties is to show their professionalism, so when they are searching for work or speaking in public they would be respected. These students were wearing ties that were falling apart and the school did not have the resources to buy them because the few available resources went to more important things.

Mrs. Barrett’s teacher felt that our support would show them that people care and want them to be as successful as possible. Mrs. Goen, 7th grade assistant-principal, made the collection of ties a service project for the Wildcats.  Students collected ties and turned them into their 3rd period teachers.  Coach Grubbs’s 3rd period class collected the most ties, with 47.  The students of WMS collected and sent off 207 ties to help the young men of Ateiku, Africa!
