Rockwall Culinary Arts Teams win big at State

(ROCKWALL ISD-March 23, 2013) Two of Rockwall High School’s Culinary Arts teams recently competed in state competition.  The Restaurant Management Team took home 1st place. This team will represent Texas in Baltimore, Maryland in April for the National ProStart Restaurant Management Competition.

The team received a total of over $100,000 in scholarships to various Hospitality and Culinary Arts schools.

The state winning team consists of: Alexis Catinchi, April Nash, Morgan Reynolds, Kathyrn Besadesky, and Clay Honeycutt (all students at RHS).

The Rockwall High School Culinary Team consisting of both RHS and RHHS students took home third place.  They received $31,000 in scholarships, collectively.

“I could not be more proud of them,” said Chef Cody Hayes.

Students competed against the best of the best, and for this to be their first time, a third place finish is truly a remarkable accomplishment. Those students are: Zachary Grannis (RHHS), Demetria Coleman (RHHS), Maddy Meyer (RHS), Chris Rivera (RHS), and Fernanda Arzola (RHS).

“I am honored to teach these young people everyday!  I am blessed beyond measure,” said Hayes.
