Toyota of Rockwall’s kid-friendly food drive helps fill shelves at Helping Hands

(Rockwall) July 23, 2013 – Toyota of Rockwall provided generous support to Helping Hands by conducting a summer food drive with their employees and customers.  The summer months are difficult as donations decrease and so many children cannot participate in free or reduced school lunch programs.

On a hot summer day, Toyota of Rockwall pulled up to the Food Pantry with two truckloads full of “kid friendly” items such as hamburger helper, mac and cheese, pasta, beans, canned meats, cereals and other goods.  Shelves, which were seriously depleted, have now been replenished and will ultimately feed families who have fallen on hard times.

The 3 pre-school children in Sarah’s family definitely benefited!  The effects of sudden job loss can be devastating – and so it was for Sarah’s family!  Bills quickly mounted after she lost her job.  Soon her husband’s salary plus savings just wouldn’t stretch so she found herself dipping into grocery money to pay bills.  At that point, she turned to Rockwall County Helping Hands. Thanks to the compassionate community, Helping Hands was able to provide food for the family.

A special thanks to Toyota of Rockwall making a big effort to supply the Helping Hands pantry with “kid friendly” foods this summer.  “Our team is thrilled to be able to help Rockwall Helping Hands, at Toyota of Rockwall we are committed to making our community a better place.  We look forward to working with Helping Hands on other great projects,” said Barbara Jackson, Vice President.
